How to view IPA
font
How to Search the CorpusWe suggest using Unicode-compliant browsers, e.g., Netscape or Internet Explorer with Windows 98/NT/2000/XP as the operating platform. As for other platforms such as Macintosh or Linux, please refer to the Unicode website for more information. Text DisplayMany of the files contained in this Archive are transcribed with IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) symbols. These symbols will not be successfully displayed if the fonts that support the Unicode texts are not installed. We have tested the following Windows fonts that users may consider installing. Notice: You only need to install one of the fonts. We suggest Lucida Sans Unicode because it's smaller in size.
TESTINGIf you have installed one of the above fonts, you should be able to see the phonetic symbol (schwa) within the brackets: [ə] Sound FilesAll the sound files are in the compressed format MPEG I Layer 3 (.mp3). A browser plug-in needs to be installed to retrieve and save files of this format. The built-in Windows Media Player of the Windows Operating System supports mp3 files but users may also choose a different player. Suggestion: Loading sound files on the WWW can be very time consuming. When listening to the sound track, please try not to click on the audio option or the audio icon. |
